Dhaka (HRNW)– Tariq Rahman, the son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is set to return home after spending 17 years in exile.

According to a foreign news agency, the 60-year-old Tariq Rahman will arrive in Dhaka from London today (Thursday). He left Bangladesh for the United Kingdom in 2008 following allegations of political vendetta and has been residing there since then.
Tariq Rahman is widely regarded as the political successor to his mother, 80-year-old Khaleda Zia, who has been hospitalized for an extended period due to a serious illness. Khaleda Zia had announced in November that she would campaign in the February 12, 2026 general elections, but her health deteriorated shortly afterward, leading to her transfer to the intensive care unit (ICU).
These elections will be held for the first time since last yearâs popular uprising, which brought an end to the 15-year rule of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, marking a significant political turning point in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, HRNW appeals to donors and well-wishers to support its initiatives aimed at promoting democracy, public awareness, and humanitarian welfare. Donations can be made at:
