Shakargarh (HRNW)– The historic Baghdadi Mosque on Ikhlaspur Road has allegedly become a target of encroachment mafia. According to the residents, 17 marlas of land was dedicated for the mosque in 1900, however, the encroachment mafia has allegedly reduced the boundaries of the mosque to only 10 marlas, while shops have been built on the remaining space.

According to sources, the mosque administration has submitted the mosque’s documents to the offices of Commissioner Gujranwala and Assistant Commissioner Shakargarh as proof of its position, while the shopkeepers have also made various claims regarding the space on their own.
Residents say that if the shops have indeed been established on the land owned by the mosque, then the higher authorities should take action without delay and get back the mosque’s land and restore it to its original condition.
Residents of the area have demanded that the Chief Minister of Punjab take notice and that the original boundaries of the Baghdadi Mosque be restored and expanded as needed so that worshippers can have access to facilities.
