Farah (HRNW)– Afghan officials have claimed that at least 10 Afghan citizens attempting to enter Iran illegally were shot dead by Iranian border guards.

According to foreign media, Mohammad Nasim Badri, spokesperson for the Farah provincial security command, said the men were heading to Iran in search of employment and were crossing the border through the Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi crossing on Monday night when Iranian guards opened fire on them.

He confirmed that all the deceased belonged to Farah province, while two other members of the group are still missing. The incident is currently under investigation, and Iran has not yet issued an official response.
This tragic incident comes amid rising tensions between Iran and Afghanistan. Over the past year, Iran has forcibly deported thousands of Afghan refugees, adding further strain to bilateral relations.
