Istanbul (HRNW)- Several Islamic countries, including Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia, have called for the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the provision of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
The participating countries in the Islamic and Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Turkey strongly condemned Israel’s ceasefire violations and demanded that the occupying forces be withdrawn from Gaza.
The meeting was attended by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. According to the Foreign Office, the leaders consulted on a joint strategy for sustainable peace, the reconstruction of Gaza and the sovereignty of the Palestinian people.
The statement said that Pakistan reiterated its principled position that an independent and sovereign state should be established in Palestine, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, and that this state should be in accordance with the pre-1967 borders.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that the Palestinians should have the right to control their own affairs and security. He said that the Hamas leadership had also expressed its willingness to hand over control of Gaza to a Palestinian Joint Committee.
He clarified that the establishment of the International Stability Force (ISF), which would monitor the ceasefire, was subject to approval by the UN Security Council. However, he expressed concern that a veto by the United States could hinder the process.
The Islamic countries also stressed that Muslim countries should play a leading role in the rehabilitation of Gaza and that it was important to avoid any new foreign control or guardianship system there.
