Sakandar Sultan Raja Nominated as Chief Election Commissioner

ISLAMABAD: (HRNW) Following the several months of back and forth about key appointments to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the government has decided to nominate Sikander Sultan Raja as the new Chief Election Commissioner, confirmed Federal Minister on Human Rights Shireen Mazari on Tuesday.

Raja’s nomination has been approved by President Arif Alvi. He will take oath once the parliamentary committee issues notification.

According to details, the decision was taken in a joint government-opposition parliamentary committee meeting led by Shireen Mazari.

After details discussion, Raja emerged as the candidate for appointment to the post of CEC, while Nisar Durrani and Shah Mehmood Jatoi, would be members of the ECP from Sindh and Balochistan, respectively, sources said after a meeting of the committee in the federal capital.
